The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
Sean Covey
1998

This book guides the reader through brilliant expanses of stories, comics, cartooons, quotes, ideas, and many other interesting uses of literature to attempt and bring the reader into reading this book. Covey makes a huge swoop at trying to compel any and every teen to read his book. Covey dedicates his very first paragraph to describing what his book is and why you (supposedly a teenager) should read it. While talking about his book and how the reader may have come to be with it, he says, "Regardless of how it landed in your hands, I'm really glad it did. Now you just need to read it." This sentence obviously and blatantly tells the reader that yes, Sean Covey is going to attempt to make you read his book, in any way he can.
In a way, Covey's strategy is extremely successful. The stories he tells in this book are utterly hilarious, the comics draw the readers eye, the quotes provide inspiration and back up his ideas. Underneath all of this, Covey presents his true ideas. It is brillance in action. Covey keeps the reader interested, but he never strays from his main goal, getting across his ideals about the habits that a good, healthy teen should have. Overall, Covey does compel the reader to read this book and his strategy of using obvious and clever ways to do this lead to a perfectly successful book.
