The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens

The 7 Habits of Highly Effeective Teens
Sean Covey
1998

The intended audience for this book is a little hard to miss. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens can only be obviously intended for all types and sorts of different kind of teenagers out there. The 7 habits, as described by the author, are "1: Be Proacitve, 2: Begin with the end in mind, 3: Put first things first, 4: Think win-win, 5: Seek first to understand, the to be understood, 6: Synergize, 7: Sharpen the Saw." These are all habits that most teens do not have and that most teens probably need. This book can not be designed for anyone else. Or can it be that there is possibly a hidden audience that is not stated so blatantly?
Parents. I believe that this book was probably bought by more parents instead of the supposed audience, teenagers. The behind the scenes audience is parents. Sean Covey had to know that most teens looking in a bookstore would look at this book and go "hmph" and walk away. The brilliance comes in when the teens mom or dad comes behind them, picks up the book, and pulls their young adult back. They buy the book and obligate thier child to read it. Then, to the teens surprise, the book turns out to be more interesting than they originally thought. They and the parents then spread the word of the books success. By this usage of capably using Covey's hidden audience, I believe that the book is designed for parents just as much as it is designed for teens.

Your parents keep doing that to you--making you read books that turn out to be GREAT! Someday you'll thank them, right? :-)

Very good reading--Covey has cultivated a wide, wide audience, and he's influenced many lives. Enjoy!
